Maryville University’s Doctor of Education program is designed for individuals currently working in the field and who have earned a master’s degree. Maryville’s innovative 2.5-year doctorate program is for teachers with full-time classroom teaching experience who want to build their skills in teacher leadership, including coaching, leading professional development, and curriculum design and implementation.

Students choosing the on-campus path
will take all courses on campus.
Members of the cohort will meet together via Zoom each week with their course professors on Thursday evenings from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for seven consecutive semesters to engage in whole group, small group and/or individual activities.
Cohort members will travel to the University campus on four Saturdays during the program to engage in face-to-face learning with their colleagues and professors focused on the development of their research/practicum projects and to share the results of these activities with their peers. (One Saturday Session in Semesters 1, 4, 6 and 7).

Maryville’s nationally accredited program is recognized throughout the St. Louis region as a leader in administrator preparation. With a strong foundation of theory, practical application, and a developed personal philosophy about leadership, the program produces highly respected leaders.
This program includes an internship and school experience where small groups of candidates design and implement an instructional workshop of three to five days duration in their area of specialization for current teachers or Maryville teacher candidates.
Maryville’s School of Education partners with private and public school districts in the greater St. Louis region and beyond to provide educators with opportunities to experience hands-on involvement in real-world projects.
Dr. Lisa Luna is an assistant professor, teaching Educational Leadership K-12. She holds a Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership from Maryville University. Dr Luna’s career spans over 34 years in public education and her roles span from classroom teacher, instructional coach, curriculum coordinator, and principal. Dr. Luna was also named as a Distinguished Principal for the St. Louis Principal’s Association in 2016.
